To the future owners of 3700 Hillview Street,
While we have been preparing this home for you and making all the beautiful features shine we have fallen in love with the house again and again. There are many updates and improvements that we are proud of and deeply love. However, you can’t see some of the reasons why we lovethis house with your eyes right away, so we thought we could share them with you in this letter.
The foliage is what we love to breathe in and smell everyday. When you open the masterbedroom french doors you can smell the jasmine bush mixed with the smell of the upper hills’eucalyptus and redwood trees, a glorious combination. There is a gardenia tree that smells like
honey in late spring, a dogwood tree, magnolia tree and wisteria that when bloom, bring huge smiles to our faces. There is a yellow rose bush, hydrangea bush, birds of paradise, and succulents that add character and charm all year round. During the spring the rose bush on the side of the house blooms and its sweet smell waifs into the whole home. To top that, there is an avocado tree that you can pick and eat right from the deck off the kitchen and a Mexican lime tree in the backyard! What can be more Californian...oh, maybe the solar panels on the roof?!
The outdoor space is where we loved to spend time with each other, family and friends and why we bought this house. The front yard is a great place to connect with neighbors and their kids riding bikes, kids and adults playing basketball, dogs playing together or neighbors visiting the chickens across the street at the school. The backyard is perfect for kid play dates, bbqs, drinking wine and telling stories around the firepit, gardening for those with a green thumb, and
taking a nap in the hammocks in the lower deck. The deck off of the kitchen is where we spend our summers eating dinner and watching the sun paint the hills a majestic golden color until it is dark and the moon bathes us in a sea of white. Mornings drinking coffee and soaking in the sun are the perfect antidote to stress of the week.
This home has hosted many celebrations from an engagement party, neighborhood Happy Hours, birthday parties and to best of all welcoming a new baby. Yes! Welcome to home where neighbors gather to eat and drink regularly and weekly during the summer. On beautiful Friday nights there are neighborhood Happy Hours where everyone with kids or no kids gather to eat, drink, and laugh. A great way to connect with those around you and now you have immediate friends! The neighborhood also hosts a yearly Easter Egg Hunt and a Halloween potluck.
This neighborhood is in the best part of Oakland. If you love to hike, enjoy nature or ride horses there is the Redwood Regional Park and the Joaquin Miller Park right up the hill. Two beautiful places to spend a day breathing clean air that awakens your soul. The Dimond Neighborhood
has a wonderful grocery store with local produce called Farmer Joe’s and is home of Dimond Park that has a public pool and beautiful path that follows Sausal Creek. Right down the street there is a great natural and bulk food store, a secret spot for bulk. This house sits right between Laurel and Dimond which are both blooming with new businesses for shopping and food. The Dimond used to be the German neighborhood and hosts a yearly Octoberfest for the entire family. There is a newly remodeled library and a great local coffee shop called the Bee Hive and a ton of amazing schools including Sequoia Elementary and Oakland Montessori School.
Even though the neighborhood and even Oakland itself offers endless fun and adventure we found ourselves enjoying this house more and more because it fulfilled our need to reconnect and relax. Next to the master bedroom there is a space that has seen many reincarnations from an office space, to a work studio to an art room and finally to what worked best of all for our family, a meditation and yoga space. The downstairs has truly become an oasis for quiet and peace away from the kid’s play, TV, and laundry upstairs. The downstairs master bedroom suite provides a serene space to wake up, meditate, practice yoga on the deck or inside and get dressed all before jumping into the busy day upstairs.
We hope you enjoy the abundance of relaxation and connection this house offers with new(neighbor) friends, old friends, family.
The Kramer Family
P.S. This house has a house size attic to store all your decorations and gear!
